New River Academy utilizes each phase of upper-class semesters to help students through the college application process. Ultimately, this program places our upper-class students at a great advantage in the application process.

What are college admissions looking for in applying students?
- PSAT and SAT scores. Some institutions accept ACT scores.

Why are New River Academy students at an advantage in the college acceptance process?
- NRA has developed a SAT preparation course in order to raise SAT scores. NRA students average over 150 points above the national average on the SAT exams.
- NRA is approved by the College Board to offer and proctor exams of Advanced Placement courses. Many of our students enter college with college credit. http://www.collegeboard.com/
- Admissions offices are warmly receiving unique students with diversified cultural and travel experiences. Our upper-class courses incorporate these unique life experiences into your classes in order to help you earn your acceptance letter.
- We help students set academic goals to achieve higher G.P.A.s. The combination of higher GPA and SAT scores means you choose your college.
- Upper-class courses incorporate college application processes within their curriculums. Eg- English courses apply essay writing topics that appear on applications.
- Student leader programs(student leader pg) provide students with international community service projects, international research projects, publication opportunities, logistics coordination…

- Michelle Yates wins the American Whitewater scholarship and is published by the same magazine twice.
- Ian Mickle, in 2005 earns acceptance to Harvard University.
- Eric Chance, graduates as 2005 NRA valedictorian and enters the Virginia Tech honors engineering program with 21 earned credits through our AP course program. First NRA student to complete three AP courses in one year.
- Jennifer Chewning enters University of Georgia and is published by American Whitewater magazine while attending AHE.
- Andrew Dunning is published by American Whitewater while attending AHE; also published by LVM video magazine and worked closely with LVM video projects.
- NRA students average 1246 on SAT exams. National average as of publication was 1030.
